The cold day

Today is way colder than yesterday. Got a sudden hip discomfort in the morning and wore the jacket for the whole day, no bath.

A winter morning

Today I went for my Sunday morning sketch meet around 8:00 A.M. It was crazy cold when I left home.

There are always some boring things at home to sketch

There are always some boring things at home to sketch, especially on my terrace. Sometimes I find myself sketching the neighbourhood buildings, nearby trees, or the rusted furniture where everyday items are casually placed.

Sunday Morning Urban Sketches

Sunday Morning Urban Sketches at Chowringee Crossing.
Waiting for a clear view on a busy street is quite challenging. Vehicles keep moving through the frame, and sometimes they stop right in front of me, completely blocking the view. But this constant interruption is also part of the experience—teaching patience, quick observation, and the art of capturing a moment.

Urban Sketching at Koley Market in Kolkata

A Sunday visit to Kolley Market, Sealdah, felt like stepping into a moving tide. People brushed past me from every direction, and I kept adjusting my position, looking for a spot where I could observe and capture the energy of the place on paper. There was no time to do the wash, so I finished it at home.

Today’s urban sketching with pen and ink.

Today’s sketch meet was held at Tagore Castle in the Jorabagan area of Kolkata. I was really hoping to find an excellent structure to sketch, but once I arrived, I felt disappointed by its ruined condition. Time and neglect were clearly visible on the walls, and the place didn’t match the image I had built in my mind. Still, sitting there with my sketchbook, I tried to see past the decay and capture whatever fragments of character the structure had left. Completed the wash at home.

The cooks were preparing food

Sketched from the terrace. The cooks were preparing food for the guests, and an occasion was happening on the field behind our house. I had planned to sketch in the morning, but I finally got some time after lunch.

Sketched on an A3 page

Sketched on an A3 page at last Sunday’s sketch meet—the first one I attended after missing a couple of sessions. It was also my first time working on such a large sheet. It’s pretty big and quite tough to sketch while sitting, because a large canvas needs to be moved back and forth to measure and place every element correctly. So, as a result, I know it’s not entirely accurate—but it’s done, and I did it for fun. Though this one took long enough that I probably could’ve finished three smaller sketches in the same time.

Sketches from Sandakphu

Just got back from my Sandakphu trek, and this time I carried a small sketchbook instead of a camera-heavy backpack. I worked in ink and wash—beginning with a quick sketch on the train the very next morning and ending with the view of the homestay at Srikhola.

Live sketches from Mahalaya Tarpana at Mallick Ghat, Kolkata

Early morning by the Hooghly, people gathered on the ghat to perform Tarpana for their ancestors. The calm river, soft light, and quiet prayers created a peaceful atmosphere. I tried to capture these moments and simple gestures through quick live sketches.
